Vintage Maitland-Smith Chippendale Carved Armchair

Product details

Seller's Notes:A substantial vintage Chippendale style armchair by Maitland-Smith, hand made in the Philippines and retaining its original label. The chair features an elaborate pierced back with interlocking ribbon and scroll forms accented by carved floral details. A shaped and carved crest rail adds another layer of ornament across the top. Large scrolling arms are supported by shaped uprights with additional carved decoration. The front cabriole legs feature deeply carved knees and terminate in classic ball-and-claw feet. The upholstered seat is covered in a muted blue-gray geometric fabric, providing a subtle contrast against the richly toned wood frame. The combination of carved ornament, openwork back, cabriole legs, and ball-and-claw feet gives the chair a strong traditional Chippendale Revival appearance. Original label beneath the seat reads “Designed by Maitland-Smith Ltd. and Hand Made in the Philippines.” Ideal as a dining armchair, desk chair, library chair, or standalone accent piece.
