Pair of Mid-Century High-Back Armchairs

Product details

Seller's Notes:A fantastic pair of vintage Broyhill / Lenoir Chair Company armchairs with dramatic sculptural high backs and classic mid-century proportions. These have much more personality than a typical vintage dining chair. Each back begins with a wide curved wooden crest and narrows dramatically toward the seat, creating a strong hourglass-like silhouette. Large open spaces along the sides keep the design visually light despite the impressive height of the chairs. The arms have a gentle curve and extend into squared front supports, while long tapered legs give the lower frames a clean, understated look. Muted green upholstered seats add some color and texture without competing with the sculptural woodwork. The original label underneath identifies Lenoir Chair Company of Lenoir, North Carolina. Lenoir Chair Company was founded by J.E. Broyhill and became the foundation of the Broyhill furniture manufacturing business. We especially like these as host chairs at either end of a dining table, but the design is strong enough that they don’t need to remain dining chairs. They could easily work as a pair of statement chairs in a living room, office, bedroom, or entryway. Offered together as a matched pair. A distinctive piece of American mid-century furniture with an unusually architectural profile and plenty of presence.
