Steelcase, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was one of America’s premier contract furniture manufacturers, and this 454 series chair represents their classic modernist office seating at its best. The molded plastic shell is finished in deep charcoal black with integrated open armrests — a clean, sculptural form that holds up beautifully decades later. The seat and back retain their original caramel gold boucle upholstery, warm and textured in a palette that works equally well in vintage-leaning and contemporary interiors. The chair swivels, adjusts in height, and rolls on its original four-star base with casters.
