Seller's Notes:Vintage spring-steel armchairs by François Carré are a very recognizable category of early modern outdoor furniture—and they’ve become increasingly collectible. ⸻ 🪑 What these chairs are Carré was a 19th-century French designer (mid-1800s) who pioneered spring steel garden seating for public parks and cafés in Paris. His designs were later produced into the early–mid 20th century. Key characteristics • Spring steel construction – the seat and back flex when you sit (no cushions needed) • “Sunburst” / fanback design – radiating steel rods from a center hub • Often called: • Sunburst chairs • Deauville chairs • Spring steel garden chairs • Typically made of wrought iron + tempered steel • Designed for outdoor durability but surprisingly comfortable They’re considered early Art Deco / industrial design precursors, even though the concept started earlier. NOTE: one chair has two broken spokes on the seat and will need repair
