Seller's Notes:A dramatic Maitland-Smith armchair combining brown leather upholstery with an extensively carved dark wood frame. The sculptural frame incorporates richly detailed arms, scrolling and foliate ornamentation, decorative shell motifs, shaped supports, and cabriole-style legs terminating in substantial carved claw feet. The amount of dimensional carving gives the chair considerable presence without overwhelming the simple upholstered portions of the design. Warm brown leather covers the broad seat and tall shaped back, complemented by traditional nailhead detailing along the lower edge of the seat. The original manufacturer’s label remains underneath and identifies Maitland-Smith U.S., Inc. as the importer and Indonesia as the country of manufacture. This is an excellent statement chair for a home office, library, study, living room, or desk setting. The combination of traditional carving and exaggerated proportions also allows it to work particularly well in an eclectic interior alongside modern or vintage furnishings. A distinctive piece with considerably more personality than a conventional leather armchair.
