Irving Amen Signed “Chess Board” MCM Framed Print

Product details

Seller's Notes:This framed color woodcut by Irving Amen brings a chess theme and a colorful Mid-Century Modern design to a room. Titled “Chess Board,” the print features crowned figures, horse-head knights, tower-shaped rooks, bishops, and pawns arranged across blocks of orange, blue, yellow, green, and black. The pieces are stylized rather than realistically shaded, with strong outlines and contrasting light and dark surfaces. The central crowned pair gives the image a focal point, while smaller pieces and differently sized rectangles carry the design outward. Fine lines throughout the colored areas add texture and keep the geometric background from feeling uniform. The print is signed “Amen” in the lower-right margin. The title and an edition notation appear at the lower left. A broad charcoal-colored mat surrounds the paper margin, with a narrow reddish accent outlining the opening. The gold-tone frame is finished with black edging that ties in with the darker elements of the artwork. Measuring 25 inches wide by 18.5 inches high overall, it works above a compact desk, beside a bookcase, or among other framed pieces. The subject makes it a fitting addition to a home office or game room, and its colors also pair easily with wood furniture and simple upholstery in a living space. Overall framed dimensions: 25″ W × 18.5″ H. Interior image area: approximately 18″ W × 13″ H. Condition: age appropriate wear, vintage finish, discoloration, see photos.
