Vintage Chinese Wooden Window Lattices
Product details
Seller's Notes:I bought these around 20 years ago but am moving and it doesn't really go with the new place. From the early 1900's. It's handcut joinery. Here's what AI says about the image. The primary geometric pattern filling the central section of each panel is the continuous interlocking wànzì grid. In traditional Chinese iconography, this endless fretwork represents "ten thousand years," symbolizing infinite longevity, good fortune, and enduring wealth. Top Transom Carving: Above the main grid, each panel features an openwork carved apron decorated with scrolling cloud or lingzhi fungus motifs. These represent higher blessings, harmony, and peace. Bottom Panel Relief: Below the grid, the bottom recessed panel features stylized ruyi-shaped relief cutouts, further emphasizing good luck and fulfillment ("as you wish"). Material & Construction: Craftsmanship like this was typically fashioned from dense, durable woods like elm (Yúmù) or pine. Notice the hand-cut joinery (mortise and tenon) visible along the frame, constructed without metal nails so the timber could expand and contract with changing seasons. There are a few loose pieces near the bottom but as wall art that isn't moved, it hasn't been an issue. They are in good condition for being over a hundred years old.
