Seller's Notes:Beautiful vintage Chinese lacquered cabinet, purchased from a shop in Hong Kong in 2005. Hand-painted in the traditional style with gilt butterflies over a fretwork ground on the upper doors, and birds, peonies, and grapevine motifs on the lower panel — butterflies are a traditional symbol of joy in Chinese decorative arts. Original brass-toned butterfly hardware with ring pulls. Side by side two-door cabinet compartments with interior shelving, plus two hidden storage compartments at the base, one on each side, concealed under removable panels — a lovely detail typical of traditional Chinese cabinetry. Condition: Shows lovely age and patina. Some lacquer loss and chipping at the corners and edges reveals the wood underneath (see photos) — this is consistent with genuine age and use, not damage from mishandling. Structurally solid, hardware functions properly, hinges and doors all work as intended. A great option for someone who appreciates pieces with real history and character.
