Seller's Notes:We bought this vintage piece about five years ago and had new cushions made for it. We also had new covers made for the arms and backs.
The arms and back rests attach to the frame with bolts through a kind of metal track that surrounds both bases. You can reconfigure the sectional in a number of ways by unscrewing and moving the arms/back rests around on the track. The original hardware for this attachment and track system was missing when we bought the sectional. It's been replaced by washers and carriage bolts.
It's pretty easy to get new covers made for any of the cushions and arms/backrests, as we had done.
The bases are "sprung" in the middle between the tracks with a stretched canvas over some kind of actual spring system that is in reasonably good vintage condition. It does squeak, but it looks and feels good.
The legs are a unique mid-century style made of heavy stainless steel plate material.
We were told that the piece originated in Colombia and may be of a 70s vintage.
All in all, it's a cool piece of furniture that can be quite versatile. It's usable as-is, but if you're ambitious it would also make for a stunning fixer-upper.
The fabrics we used to re-cover it are durable. They're great if you have a dog. They're hard to puncture and are abrasion resistant, stain resistant, and washable (cold, gentle, air dry). It's also good at not showing/collecting pet hair as much as other textured fabrics.
The texture of the fabric on the cushions is not great for cats, though. While the damage from claws is not as bad as other textured fabrics, it's not cat-proof (see photos).
We like the character of this sofa a lot and had planned to do more refurbishment of it. However, the seat height is too low for our aging parents who spend a lot of time with us. So, we've decided to replace this with a sofa that's more accommodating of their needs.
We are motivated to sell it and open to reasonable offers.
