Seller's Notes:A stunning and authentic vintage Japanese Isho-Dansu (clothing chest) from the late Meiji to Taisho era (c. 1890s–1920s). This two-section stacking chest is a fine example of traditional Japanese joinery, characterized by its dramatic wood grain and hand-forged iron hardware. Construction & Materials The drawer fronts are crafted from Keyaki (Zelkova), highly prized in Japan for its bold, swirling grain and durability. The case is constructed from traditional Sugi (Japanese Cedar), chosen for its resistance to humidity. The chest consists of two separate sections that stack securely on top of one another, a design originally intended for mobility and flexibility. Hardware & Features Ironwork: Features classic hand-forged iron "Warabite" (bracken-fern style) bail handles and large, decorative iron lock plates (Jomae) on each drawer. The iron retains a deep, oxidized patina. Storage: Offers spacious full-width drawers for substantial storage. Kobiraki-do: The lower right features a charming locking safe door (Kobiraki-do) with elaborate iron hinges.
