Seller's Notes:An exceptionally rare and monumental example of Mid-Century Studio Craft/American Outsider Art. This stunning high-back throne chair stands at an impressive 5 feet tall. Purchased originally at a landmark New York City street art fair, this functional sculpture perfectly bridges the gap between industrial Brutalism and narrative Folk Art. The centerpiece features an intricate, hand-executed negative space silhouette medallion depicting the hand-painted Noah's Ark riding stylized waves, complete with a multi-story cabin, flying flags, and finely detailed animal profiles (including giraffes, lions, and elephants). The very top of the 5-foot frame peaks into an open, minimalist gable. The jagged cut-out clouds and stylized moon flanking the top of the circular medallion act as the "shark fin" sharp, expressive crown elements project outward above it all. The seat itself is brilliantly engineered from heavy woven steel straps, displaying an exquisite, multi-toned heat patina (golds, coppers, and iridescent purples) earned during the torch-welding process. The frame is anchored by heavy, custom hand-formed, decorated circular scroll "feet". A truly stunning and uniquely fascinating conversational centerpiece for an indoor or outdoor space. Perfect as an accent chair or standalone sculptural art piece, it is a spectacular, one-of-a-kind statement piece for collectors of mid-century outsider art or brutalist design.
