Crafted with Pottery Barn’s signature solid construction, it offers built-in storage drawers and a timeless design that works well in both kids’ and guest rooms. This bed has been exceptionally well cared for in a smoke-free home and remains sturdy, clean, and structurally sound. We’ve truly loved this piece, but are redesigning the room and transitioning to a different layout. Fits a standard twin mattress. HOW IT IS CONSTRUCTED Crafted from solid poplar wood, birch veneers and MDF (medium density fiberboard), an engineered wood that lends exceptional strength. Expertly constructed with mortise-and-tenon and tongue-and-groove joinery for high-quality structural integrity. All wood is kiln-dried, a process that ensures that the furniture will never split, warp, crack or mildew. Drawers feature English dovetail joinery and waxed wooden glides, which ensure smooth motion. Sturdy half-moon safety stops keep drawers securely in place. Mattress platform is made of 100% solid wood slats for extra strength. Finished in child-safe, water-based paint which provides durability, depth of color and richness to each piece of furniture. DETAILS THAT MATTER Captain's bed features the option to have the drawers and trundle installed on either side of the bed, optimizing space and giving the bed a custom feel. Captain's bed is equipped with three large drawers, side ladder for easy access in and out of bed and a trundle for overnight guests. Simply White and Charcoal feature brushed nickel knobs, Chocolate features antique bronze knobs. Trundle provides a comfortable extra bed for overnight guests when used with our Lullaby Trundle Mattress (sold separately). Trundle offers generous storage space for toys, clothes, bedding and more when used without a mattress. The trundle is fitted with rolling casters that make it easy for kids to open up and put away by themselves.
