Seller's Notes:A handsome deep-red lacquer storage chest by Palecek, originally used as a display piece in the Ralph Lauren showroom at Lord & Taylor in Westchester, New York. I purchased it when the L&T closed in 2020. It features brass hardware, a pretty patterned lining of a traditional longevity symbol and offers generous storage. It is very well made, appears to be solid wood and is heavy. It is versatile and solid enough that my son and I have sat on it as a bench to read stories. The chest is well-worn from its showroom life, with visible chips, scratches and edge loss, but remains striking and has the potential to be a real statement piece. The photos accurately capture the color: it is a rich, deep red rather than a bright fire-engine red. Palecek is a high-quality brand sold by Neiman Marcus and other luxury retailers. I recall looking up trunks at the time and was happy paying $500 for this one. I intended to restore it but never found the time. Now my son needs more space in his room and it’s too heavy for me to move around easily by myself. This piece is solid and has tremendous potential for someone willing to give it a little TLC.
