Seller's Notes: Oil paint and genuine 23-carat gold leafing on canvas, September 2019. 33” x 16.5”, 84 cm x 42 cm (also the size of Klimt's original painting). This is my adaptation of Gustav Klimt"s "Judith and the Head of Holofernes", from 1901. It depicts the biblical character of Judith holding the severed head of Holofernes... . Here my thoughts and emotions about this again timely motive: Judith appears as god's instrument of salvation, as the femme fatale, she maintains a magnetic fascination and sensuality. The symbolism of the painting describes the triumph of the erotic feminine principle over the aggressive masculine one. What I have been feeling and thinking about is expressed in my painting here: Upon a closer look, you can see that in my artistic rendering I also include a comment about the state of affairs that we politically and sociologically are finding ourselves in. May the suffering to all humans, that is caused by greed envy and dilution, be overcome by the attributes assigned to the feminine and inherent as well in the masculine, the qualities, like inclusion, nurturing, caring and sharing our wealth, at last, persevere. And may the mars or masculine energy that we women so adore be shared when making love not wars.
