Seller's Notes:A fully labeled and highly distinctive walnut two-tier end table by John Stuart Inc. of Grand Rapids and New York — one of the most respected American furniture companies of the mid-20th century. The original John Stuart brass medallion is present and authenticated. The standout feature is a vitreous enamel inlay set flush into the walnut top: an eye-shaped medallion in blue, white, gold, and aqua with an abstract organic motif — a rare and beautiful combination of studio craft and fine furniture production. The walnut form is architecturally ambitious: dramatically splayed tapered legs with a waisted profile descend from a chamfered-corner top to a lower display shelf with matching chamfered edges and concave sides. The overall composition has the sculptural quality associated with John Stuart's best 1960s production. The enamel is vivid and intact. The walnut is richly grained throughout. John Stuart Inc. collaborated with major designers including Paul Frankl, Peter Hvidt, Bert England, and Milo Baughman.
