The barrel-form chair has a continuous curved back and arm in bentwood rattan, with an elaborate arched and diamond lattice back splat joined at wrapped rattan intersections. Bundled rattan pole legs and principal members throughout. The ottoman carries a matching reed-wrapped apron panel and bundled rattan legs. Both pieces include their floral cushions in a large-scale rose and peony pattern on a burgundy ground. The construction quality — bundled pole legs, wrapped joints, reed apron detail — places this set clearly in the tradition of American rattan production at its most considered.
