Seller's Notes:Beautifully restored by hand in bold contrast for modern times, but maintaining the character that shows this piece is as much as 94 years old. Metal hardware is original and the two round metal pulls show a patent of 1930, indicating the piece is 94 years old. The two porcelain knobs in the top drawer are not original to the piece. They were made by Takahashi in Japan and stained by hand to match the top drawer. They and the trim on the sides are the only new additions. The original manufacturer was Woodward Manufacturing Company of Austin, Texas. Restoration Details: The surfaces and the front of every drawer were sanded down to bare wood and stained in a variety of complementary contrasting colors. The decorative features on the drawer fronts have been painted gold, as shown.Dark stained wood trim with small gold colored nails has been added to the sides. While the surfaces and drawer fronts have been painstakingly refinished to nearly new condition, the body of the piece has been kept intentionally somewhat distressed, but top coated in a matte polyurethane to protect against further wear. For the body of the piece to maintain the original patina, a formula that contains a blend of solvents, stain, and mineral oil was used to penetrate and restore the original finish prior to the addition of a durable matte polyurethane coating. Every drawer interior as well as every other unseen raw wood element within the body of the piece has multiple coats of tung oil for added protection. With the exception of the back, all sections viewable from the exterior have a polyurethane coating. Each flat surface has several coats of matte polyurethane. Castors original to the piece were removed due to damage. The hardware to add castors (in case the buyer chooses to) has not been removed, so there is a metal inlay for castors on the bottom of each leg. For those choosing not to add castors, felt backing is included. With appropriate care, the refinisher believes at least another 94 years of use can be expected.
