Seller's Notes:MAKE ME AN OFFER. Elegant late 1700’s free standing Cheval Mirror retaining its original silver backing and encased within a mahogany frame trimmed in satinwood. The original oak wood back features a tiger stripe pattern. The oval mirror is held by two mahogany support arms finished at the top with acorn finials. At the bottom the supports separate into splayed feet and attach to the original brass castors. Hinges on either side of the mirror allow it to be tilted according to need: not only for grooming purposes but to reflect or direct light. Note that while the hinges are original one of the backplates was lost during a move so both backplates have been replaced. Ancient repairs to the feet are noted in the pictures as are a number of time-worn distress marks to the silver backing. The quality of the mirror, in any case, is unaffected. This is a unique and versatile piece that lends itself for use in the bed or bath rooms as well as in the dressing room or foyer. I lived in London in the early 70’s where I became acquainted with English antiques. I love the inherent history and workmanship of all the pieces I own. Each one has brought me great pleasure. Now it’s time to downsize and pass on the enjoyment to a new owner.
