Product details
Seller's Notes: This chromolithograph plate appears to date from roughly 1890. Originally it likely was part of the book "Reichenbachia: Orchids Illustrated and Described," written by Henry Frederick Conrad Sander and illustrated by three artists, one of whom was A.H. Loch. The book was published in England circa 1888-1894, and this particular illustration, as you can see from the signature, was by A.H. Loch. This chromolithograph was framed in the 1970s. It is framed with a mat, under glass. The frame's dimensions are 19.5" x 24.75" x 0.75" deep; the dimensions of the chromolithograph itself (within the mat) are roughly 19.25" x 14.25". The backing of the frame was worn, and has been repaired, as shown in the photos. I repaired the backing with tape, in order to make sure the frame would be secure for transport and because the original means of securing the backing includes small diamond-shaped pieces of metal which are sharp and, if unsecured, could cut someone (you can see a few of those pieces in the photos of the unrepaired backing); those little metal pieces are still there in the frame, but they are now covered by the new tape on the backing. There are a few very minor scrapes on the frame as shown in the detail photos.
